Howard Miller Clocks - A Short History

Howard Miller Clocks Company is headquartered in Zeeland, Michigan (USA) with additional manufacturing facilities in Germany. The company manufactures longcase, or grandfather, clocks and bills itself as the "World's Largest Grandfather Clock Manufacturer."

The company was founded in 1926 as the Howard Miller Clock Company. It started life as a division of the office furniture company Herman Miller. In 1937 Howard Miller Clocks spun off from it's parent with Herman Miller's son Howard as its leader. Despite the fact that the two company headquarters sit across the street from each other, there are no formal ties between the companies today.

A private firm, Howard Miller Clocks is presided over today by Phil Miller, it's president, and enjoys a strong share of the grandfather, grandmother, and other longcase clocks market.

This is the kind of stuff that facinates me. How did someone sit down and figure out clockmaking the first time?

Don't forget about Seth Thomas clocks. just because the company has been bought out by a big monster clock maker doesn't mean we don't make good timepoieces anymore.
